The Original Pilot's GMT — Before the GMT-Master II
The GMT Master (ref. 1675, produced 1959–1980) was Rolex's first dual-timezone watch, developed at the request of Pan American Airways for their transatlantic pilots. The original GMT Master had a fixed 24-hour hand (no independent adjustment) — the wearer set local time by rotating the bezel to align the 24-hour scale with the current timezone offset. The GMT-Master II (introduced 1983) added an independently adjustable 24-hour hand, which made the watch more functional but changed the operating logic.
