The rotating bezel was not for diving or timing — it was for mathematical calculations. The bezel's scale could be used as a slide-rule for multiplication, division, and proportion calculations, making the Turn-O-Graph a wrist-worn calculator for engineers and businessmen. The modern Turn-O-Graph (ref. 116261/116264, produced until 2010) is essentially a Datejust with a rotating fluted bezel — the same 36mm case, the same caliber 3135, but with a bezel that turns instead of being fixed. It is the rarest production Rolex in the modern catalog and the one that most collectors have never seen in person.
