The Rolex Datejust 41 (references 1263xx series, introduced 2016) is the current-generation Datejust for men who find the 36mm too small and the Datejust II (41mm, discontinued) too thick. The key improvement over the Datejust II is the case profile: the Datejust 41 uses the same tapered-lug design as the 36mm, which makes the 41mm case wear significantly thinner and more elegant than the slab-sided Datejust II. The Datejust 41 also uses the caliber 3235 movement (70-hour power reserve, Chronergy escapement, Paraflex hairspring) — a generation newer than the 3135 in the 36mm. The Datejust 41 is available in steel/white gold (126334), steel/yellow gold (126303, 126333), and full gold (126308, 126338) configurations.
Datejust 41 vs. Datejust 36: Which Size?
The 36mm is the classic Datejust — the size that has been in production since 1945. The 41mm is the modern Datejust — the size that most men under 45 prefer. On wrists 7" and above, the 41mm looks proportional; on wrists under 7", the 36mm looks more balanced. The 41mm has the newer movement (3235, 70-hour power reserve); the 36mm has the proven movement (3235 since 2021, previously 3135). Both are Superlative Chronometers. The 41mm is the more popular size in current production; the 36mm is the more traditional size.
