Jaeger-LeCoultre has supplied movements, escapements, and complications to more Swiss manufactures than any other company — including Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Vacheron Constantin. The brand's nickname, "the watchmaker's watchmaker," reflects this role: for most of its history, JLC was the industry's invisible engine, producing the ebauches and calibers that powered other brands' most prestigious watches. In 1992, JLC began producing its own complete watches under its own name, and today it is one of the few manufactures that produces every component in-house — from the balance spring to the case, from the dial to the hands. The Reverso (1931) is JLC's icon; the Master collection is its dress-watch backbone; and the Atmos clock (powered by atmospheric temperature changes) is the most efficient perpetual mechanism in existence.

The Reverso: The Only Watch That Turns

The Reverso was designed in 1931 for British polo players who needed a watch that could survive the impact of a polo ball. The solution was a case that flips 180 degrees on its horizontal axis — the dial faces inward during play (protected by the solid caseback), and outward during dinner. The Art Deco rectangular case with its three gadroons has been in continuous production for 93 years, making it the longest-running watch design in history. No other watch has this mechanism, and no other watch looks like a Reverso — it is one of the most instantly recognizable designs in watchmaking.
