In 1993, a 22-year-old designer named Emmanuel Gueit was given a brief: make the Royal Oak bigger, bolder, and more aggressive. The result was the Royal Oak Offshore — a 42mm chronograph (enormous for 1993) with a rubber-clad crown and pushers, an exposed gasket between the bezel and the case, and a dial that amplified the Royal Oak's tapisserie pattern to a larger scale. The watch community was horrified. Collectors called it "The Beast" and predicted it would destroy the Royal Oak's reputation. Instead, the Offshore created an entirely new category — the luxury sport chronograph — and became the template that every subsequent oversized chronograph followed. Thirty years later, the Offshore is the second pillar of the AP lineup and the one that drives the brand's visibility in popular culture.
The most distinctive element of the Offshore is the rubber cladding on the crown and chronograph pushers. This is not a decorative choice — it is a functional one. The rubber over-molding protects the crown and pushers from impact, provides grip in wet conditions, and creates a visual contrast with the steel or gold case that makes the Offshore instantly recognizable. The technique was borrowed from the automotive industry, where rubber over-molding is used on gear shifts and control knobs. No other luxury watch uses this construction, and it is the single element that most clearly distinguishes the Offshore from the standard Royal Oak at a distance of ten feet.
Offshore Chronograph 42mm (Ref. 26420OR / 26420SO) The flagship. 42mm steel or rose gold case with caliber 4401 (flyback chronograph, column-wheel, 70-hour power reserve), rubber-clad pushers, and Méga Tapisserie dial. The 42mm is the original Offshore proportion and the one that delivers the full visual impact.
Offshore Diver (Ref. 15720ST) The dive Offshore. 42mm steel case with caliber 3126/3840 (chronograph, 50-hour power reserve), 300m water resistance, and an inner rotating bezel controlled by the crown at 10 o'clock. The Diver is the most functional Offshore and the one that best serves AP's maritime identity.
Offshore Music Edition (Ref. 26186OR) The limited edition. 42mm rose gold case with a dial inspired by equalizer VU meters and a rubber strap with text pattern. The Music Edition is the most culturally specific Offshore and the one that connects AP to the music and entertainment world that has embraced the brand.

Q: Royal Oak or Offshore?
A: The Royal Oak is the icon — 37–41mm, integrated bracelet, tapisserie dial, the watch that started luxury sport. The Offshore is the extrovert — 42mm+, rubber cladding, bolder proportions, maximum visual presence. The Royal Oak is the connoisseur's choice; the Offshore is the showman's choice.
Q: Is 42mm too big?
A: The Offshore wears larger than its measurement because of the rubber-clad pushers and the exposed gasket. On wrists 7"+ it works. Below 6.5", it will dominate. If you want AP in a smaller package, the Royal Oak 41mm or 37mm is the alternative.
Q: How does the Offshore hold value vs. the Royal Oak?
A: The Royal Oak trades at a premium above retail in steel; the Offshore trades below retail in steel. The Royal Oak is the better store of value; the Offshore is the better value purchase — you get more watch for less money on the secondary market.
