IWC's solution was radical: house a pocket-watch caliber in an oversized 43mm case with a thin bezel, Arabic numerals, and a railway-track minute ring for maximum legibility. Portugieser Chronograph (Ref. 3716) The flagship. The current production model uses the in-house caliber 69355 — a column-wheel chronograph with 46-hour power reserve, replacing the long-running ETA 7750-based 79350. Available in 41mm with steel or gold cases, and a range of dial colors. The silver dial with blue hands on steel is the pre-owned market favorite — it captures the nautical aesthetic that defines the collection.
Portugieser Automatic (Ref. 5007) The time-only dress watch. Powered by the in-house caliber 52010 with the Pellaton automatic winding system and an extraordinary 7-day power reserve, displayed via a subdial at 3 o'clock. The 42.3mm case wears elegantly due to the thin bezel and long lugs. For collectors who want the Portugieser aesthetic without the chronograph premium, the Automatic is the purest expression of the design.
Portugieser Tourbillon The complication showcase. A flying minute tourbillon at 12 o'clock, powered by the hand-wound caliber 94800 or the automatic 89900 with a peripheral rotor. Pre-owned examples are scarce and represent the pinnacle of IWC's dress-watch capability.
